When did Jesus realize that he was the Messiah, the Son of God?
The Bible doesn’t say, but I can’t help but wonder. When a baby is born he/she don’t know anything but the sound of his/her mother’s voice. If Jesus was fully human and fully God, I think there had to be a time when he didn’t know that he was God.
Did you ever wake up and realize you had been dreaming but you couldn’t quite remember what it was you were dreaming about? Maybe it was like that for baby Jesus. Before Jesus was born, he had lived in heaven with God. But as a baby, like a forgotten dream, he probably couldn’t remember heaven.
Sometimes people forget who they are after a bad knock on the head. When this happens it is called amnesia. I think Jesus allowed himself to have amnesia when he was born. Many times when people get amnesia they gradually begin to remember again, a little at a time.
The Bible tells us Jesus never sinned. The God-part of Jesus had to be so strong that he had a special gift for wanting to do the right thing all the time. That isn’t necessarily true for you and me. We struggle with our own selfish wants that get in the way of what is right for others around us.
We also read in the Bible that when Jesus was twelve years old he went to Jerusalem with Mary and Joseph and a lot of other friends and relatives.(Luke 2:41-52) When it was time to go home, the people started back to Nazareth where they lived. After Mary and Joseph had traveled for three days, they realized that Jesus wasn’t with them, and they and went back to look for him.
They found Jesus in the Temple talking with the teachers. When Mary asked him why he had treated his parents like this, he answered, “Didn’t you know I must be about my Father’s business?” Jesus must have been well on his way to understanding who he was.
It isn’t important that we know exactly when Jesus understood he was the Messiah, but thinking about it may be help us to realize what he gave up to leave the glory of heaven and live on earth as a man. It took a lot of love to do that, and even more so to die for us on a cross so our sins could be forgiven and we could become the adopted sons and daughters of God.
Thank you Jesus for leaving your home in heaven to live with us on earth. Thank you for dying for me and for coming to live in my heart. I love you Jesus.

What Am I?
I’m snatched up
From the pile
Of hollow shells
Just like me.
My toes get warm
As I stand alone,
Next my belly,
Last my head.
I’m heavy now
With warm sweetness
A cap is twisted
On my head
We’re standing now
All in rows
Like soldiers
In formation
Heee heee,
That tickles!
A label is mashed
On my tummy.
I’ve filled many of these when I was a commercial beekeeper. I would tease my husband by giggling and pretending the honeybears were laughing when I put the labels on their tummies.

Read Luke 1:5-25. (If you click on this link you can read it from the NIV Bible.)
An angel from God told a Priest named Zachariah that his wife was going to have a son, and that they were to name him John. His wife Elizabeth was old and had no children. Zachariah didn’t believe the angel at first so he was unable to speak again until after the baby was born. They named the baby John.
“Why does the Christmas story in the Bible start with a baby named John? I thought Jesus was the baby. “ Children look at me with puzzled faces when I read the Christmas story to them from the Bible. The book of Luke in the Bible tells about John before it tells about Jesus. Who is John?
John was called John the Baptist when he grew up. God had a special job for John to do. His important job was to help people get their hearts ready to meet Jesus. John taught people that they needed to turn from their sins and to be baptized. When John baptized Jesus, he knew that Jesus was the Son of God, the Messiah.
The real Christmas story is about Jesus, but God used people like John to help show that Jesus was God’s Son. John was about six months older than Jesus. He was also Jesus’ cousin.
Dear God, help me to remember John’s message to the people, and help me to keep from sinning. Help me to have a clean heart so I can live better for Jesus. Help me to remember that Jesus is the real reason why we have Christmas. Help me to love you more and more every day. Amen.

Here is a Christmas card for kids with a puzzle in it about the very first Christmas when baby Jesus was born. You can print one out for yourself if you click here. If you need the help of the answer key, click here.
Have a wonderful Christmas and remember whose birthday we are celebrating.
If you believe something with all your heart, then it’s right for you. Or is it? A lot of people want you to believe that. They want to believe there is no true right and wrong in this world. They want to make up their own rules.
From the beginning of time God has been trying to teach us what is right and wrong. Adam and Eve broke God’s first rule by eating the only fruit in the garden God told them not to eat. People have been choosing to break God’s rules ever since that day.
God gave Moses ten rules called the Ten Commandments. But the people broke those rules as well.
Many hundreds of years passed and the people kept breaking God’s rules. Then God sent Jesus to teach us how to live in a way that pleases God. He taught about serving God by loving people. He taught people to take care of other people’s needs instead of only thinking about themselves.
Jesus healed people. He helped blind people to see, deaf people to walk, and crippled people to walk. He even raised people from the dead.
The religious leaders didn’t really care about the people. They liked to look and feel important. But Jesus could see right through them. They became jealous because the people listened to Jesus. Jesus said he was God’s Son. This really made the religious leaders angry, so they had Jesus killed. They caused him to be crucified on a cross.
The best part is that Jesus didn’t stay dead. Jesus came back alive and appeared to many people again. After many days, the people saw Jesus float up into heaven. He promised to come back again one day. We are still waiting for that day. It could be very soon.
If we will learn all we can about Jesus and about how he taught us to live, we will grow closer to God. One day when Jesus was talking to the people he said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 NIV)
Don’t miss the joy of knowing Jesus in a personal way. And don’t miss out on the chance to live forever with Jesus. Read about Jesus in the Bible and pray to God every day. And don’t let anyone fool you into believing there are many ways to God. That doesn’t fit what Jesus said.

Do you ever feel like everything is piling up on you? You messed up at school on a big assignment, your best friend got mad at you (or you don’t even have a best friend), and when you got home your family acted like you weren’t even there… Life can be tough sometimes, even for kids. I hope you have a family that loves you and helps you to believe in yourself. But even if you don’t, you have a heavenly Father who loves and cares for you. Jesus loves you in the very same way. He even died for you on a cross to prove it. And he rose up from the grave to prove that he was God’s son.
Once Jesus was talking to a large crowd of people when he said: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)
Those might seem like some big words for kids to understand, but Jesus was telling those people to bring their problems to him and let him help them solve them.
Jesus uses the word “yoke” when he talked to the people. They knew what a yoke was, but maybe you don’t understand it. In Bible days two oxen were used together to pull heavy carts and wagons. The yoke made it easier for the animals to share the load as they pulled the wagon. Jesus is willing to share our hard times and help to make it easier for us.
Jesus promises to go through hard times with us like a best friend. If we learn to live the way he teaches us to live, he will help us to feel good about ourselves and will help us to enjoy life.

I am enjoying a live web cam that lets me watch a mama bear and her baby live on my computer. It is so fun. You can watch it too at www.bear.org (Click on the link)
I watched the mama and baby wake up. Then the mama bear got up and went out of their little den so I got a really good view of the baby who cried for her mama just like little children do. Mama left and returned several times and then curled up with her baby again. It looked like she would go back to sleep. But I kept seeing her raise her head and look around. I think she is a good mama.
Don’t we have an awesome God! He created bears and every other living creature. The people who set up this web cam are studying bears so we can understand and protect them better. I believe I heard some human voices talking to the bear while I was watching. Maybe they were the scientists.
